StopChomp Privacy Policy
last updated: July 12, 2026
StopChomp helps you break habits like nail biting and face touching by watching for hand-to-face contact through your device's front camera and alerting you in the moment. It is designed so that your data never leaves your device.
Camera
StopChomp processes front-camera frames entirely on your device to detect when a hand lingers near your mouth or face. Camera frames are analyzed in memory and immediately discarded. No photos, video, or camera data are ever stored, recorded, or transmitted anywhere — not to us, not to any third party. The app contains no cloud component for detection; the machine-learning models run locally on your phone.
When you enable monitoring with the screen off, the camera continues to be used by a foreground service for the same purpose. Android shows a persistent notification the entire time monitoring is active.
Habit data
Counts and timestamps of detected episodes, session durations, and your settings are stored in a local database on your device only. We have no servers and no access to this data. If you have Android device backup enabled, your habit data may be included in your device's standard backup (e.g., to your Google account); that backup is governed by Google's terms and encryption, not by us. Uninstalling the app deletes all local data.
Purchases
The optional Pro upgrade is processed by Google Play Billing. We receive no payment details; Google's handling of your purchase is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
The desktop app
The desktop version (Windows/Linux) works the same way: detection runs entirely on your computer and no camera data ever leaves it. It makes exactly two kinds of network requests, both disclosed here:
- License validation. If you buy StopChomp Unlimited, the app confirms your license key with polar.sh (our merchant of record) at launch and periodically after. The request contains the key and its anonymous per-device activation id — no name, no email, no usage data. Purchases themselves are processed by Polar and governed by the Polar privacy policy.
- Update check. Once per launch, the app asks stopchomp.com for the newest version number. The request carries only your platform ("win"/"linux") and app version. We keep aggregate counts of these requests (per day, platform, and country) to understand roughly how many installs are active — no identifiers, no cookies, no per-user records. You can turn this off in Settings → "Check for updates".
Data collection summary
- Data collected by us: none that identifies you — only anonymous, aggregate installer-download and update-check counts from the desktop app
- Data shared with third parties: none
- Analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs: none
- Account or sign-in: none required or offered
This website
This site is static HTML. It runs no scripts, sets no cookies, and includes no analytics or tracking of any kind. Installer downloads are counted per file, in aggregate — the same no-identifier rule as the update checks described above.
Children
StopChomp is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Because the app collects no data, changes are expected to be rare.
